User Manual

Repeat sections of audio or video until memorized.

Getting started

  1. Open https://qrecite.com/ in a browser (Chrome, Safari, Edge, Firefox).
  2. All data (points and settings) is stored in your browser on your device — nothing is sent to any server. No account needed.

Choosing an audio or video file

  1. Tap the "Choose an audio or video file" box.
  2. Pick a file from your device. Common formats: MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG, MP4, WebM.
  3. The file name appears below the box. A video player appears if the file contains video; audio files still work even though nothing is shown.
  4. If a file cannot be read, an error message appears — for example, the format or codec is not supported on this device.
Media files are not stored. The app only saves points and settings. The audio/video file itself stays on your device and must be chosen each time you use it.

Marking points

  1. Play the file with the Play button.
  2. At the end of the part you want to memorize, press Mark point. The current time is recorded as a point with an automatic label: A, B, C, … then Z, AA, AB, and so on.
  3. Repeat until all important parts are marked. Points appear as markers on the timeline and in the Points list.

Response correction (lag): when marking, you may tap slightly after the sound you meant. Choose a response correction value (None / 0.3 / 0.5 / 0.8 s) so the point is shifted back by that amount. The value is saved per file.

Repeating a range

A range is the part between two points (or the start/end of the file) that you want to repeat.

  1. Set From and To — choose the start and end points from the list; or use Start/End for the file boundaries.
  2. Press Repeat this range. Audio/video plays from From to To, then loops back — according to the repeat count.
  3. Press the same button (Stop repeating) to stop at any time.

Helper buttons

Configuring the repeat

Above the Repeat this range button are settings, saved per file:

SettingChoicesWhat it does
Repeat count1x, 3x, 5x, 10x, 20x, ContinuouslyHow many times the range repeats before stopping.
Pause to repeat aloudWhole segment, No pause, 2 s, 5 sPause after one segment finishes, giving you time to shadow. "Whole segment" = a pause as long as the segment.
Speed0.5x, 0.75x, 1xPlayback speed. Once repeating stops, the speed returns to normal (1x).

Status

While repeating, the status text shows progress:

Managing points

In the Points card, each point has buttons:

ButtonWhat it does
PlayPlays starting 1 second before the point.
−0.1 / +0.1Moves the point backward/forward by 0.1 seconds.
HereMoves the point to the current playback position (pause at the desired spot first, then tap Here).
DeleteDeletes that point.
When a point is deleted, any From/To setting pointing at it is adjusted automatically.

Export, import, and share

Points can be moved between devices or shared.

When importing:

Points not belonging to the currently open file do not appear immediately — they are attached to the media by matching name + size.

Switching language

Installing on your phone (PWA)

The app can be installed so it works like a native app and opens without internet.

Once installed:

App updates

When a new version is released, just open the app once while online — the browser updates the app automatically. No need to reinstall.

Privacy: all data is stored on your device. No account, no tracking.

FAQ

Does Qrecite need the internet?

Thanks to offline mode, once the app is installed (or the page has been opened online), it works without internet. Updates need an online connection just once.

My media file is gone. What happens to my points?

Points are stored separately from the file. As long as the file's name and size match what was saved, points attach again automatically (or can be restored by importing an export file).

Why the "Whole segment" pause?

It is the estimated shadowing time: a pause as long as one segment's duration (adjusted for playback speed). Handy for shadowing practice.

How many points can I create?

There is no limit for creating points. For imports, the limit is 2000 points per media for reliability.

Why are my points "off"?

Point positions can differ if: (a) the file is not the same one that was marked, (b) a different response correction was set when marking, or (c) the file was played at a different speed when marking. Check the media duration shown in the import warning.

Does Qrecite send my data to a server?

No. The app runs entirely on your device; media and points are never uploaded.
